The law states that employers have a legal responsibility to provide adequate training for those who perform manual handling tasks in their day to day role. However, with incorrect manual handling causing over a third of workplace injuries, adequate training is not only a legal requirement, it is incredibly important for the safety of all staff.

Who's it for?

Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who work, or intend to work, in a role that involves manual handling. It is ideal for those working in a variety of environments including warehouses and shops.

What will I learn?

Learners will learn the key principles of manual handling and how to apply these to their workplace. They will also practise a wide range of techniques, ensuring that they leave the course confident and proficient in moving and handling. 1. Understand the importance of safe manual handling
  • Recognise the potential injuries and ill health associated with incorrect manual handling
  • Distinguish employer’s and employee’s duties relating to manual handling at work
  • Identify the consequences for non-compliance with health and safety requirements at work
2. Know how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety
  • Recognise the definitions of ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’ in the context of manual handling work
  • Identify the process for carrying out a manual handling risk assessment
  • Recognise the principle of the risk control hierarchy when applied to manual handling
3. Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety
  • Identify safe movement principles associated with manual handling
  • Recognise the types of equipment designed to be used for manual handling tasks
  • Identify the requirements for the testing, servicing and examination of manual handling and lifting equipment
4. Be able to apply safe manual handling principles
  • Demonstrate efficient and safe manual handling principles when; a. applying effort to, or moving a load or object manually on their own b. using manual handling aids and equipment c. undertaking a manual handling task as part of a team

What will I get out of the training?

The Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling Course provides you with a certificate at the end of your training, to gain this qualification you need to meet the required level for each of the practical and written assessments. The certificate you gain is valid for three years and meets government guidelines.

The course takes a full day and can be started at any time suitable to your needs, this includes weekends and evenings as well.
